Tis the Season

...For Marching band

(Photo of the entire colorguard)

(Just the seniors...good one Ciara.)

Ciara's last year {sob!}

I am a little heartbroken that in a month or 2 this will all be over. But I guess this is a year of lasts so I had better get used to it.

This years theme is " The Moon and the Sun." A story of how the sun dies every night so the moon can live.  How wonderfully tragic and romantic. Just what I need. A tearjerker.

On the upside it gets me to high school football games that I otherwise wouldn't have bothered to attend just so I can watch the band perform at the halftime show.

Last weekend they headed off to their first competition.  A 3 day trip to Salem, Oregon. 7 hours each way on a bus. Camping out on the floor of a gym for 2 nights and next to no sleep. Practicing wherever they can find space until their performance time.

But it was all worth it. They had a great time and came away with a win.

Color

Imagine living in a black and white world.  Monochrome. Dull, dreary, depressing. So when you think about color it makes you realize how amazing God is.  What a fantastic idea, making everything in color...and better still making human eyes able to perceive all the different shades and hues.  Color is invigorating, refreshing, energizing.

( Thanks to Kim for allowing me to go an pick over her garden).

If you were to look around my house you would be able to tell without too much effort what my favourite colors are.  There is a lot of chocolate...not surprising considering my love affair with confectionary but you will notice a lot of teal, aqua and blue here and there and just a little gray.  There is no orange...or purple... I don't really know why..I don't hate those colors but I guess I am just not drawn to them.

My latest color obsession is this candle.  It reminds me of a stormy ocean or a windswept beach.

And so it's no surprise that my latest knitting project is all about reflecting those colors. A big warm blanket to sit under at high school football games.  Which aren't too far away so I had better get knitting.

And then just like that....

Summer is over and it's back to school.

A senior, a freshman and a middle schooler.

Holding onto Summer

With the kids heading back to school tomorrow it seems like the last few strands of summer are slipping through my fingers.  I am trying to hold onto these last few days and enjoy them.

We have been busy with our usual menu of soccer and marching band practices but we have also had a wonderful visit from some of our extended Australian family.  A cousin who I hadn't seen since I was 18 who had been vacationing in South America for the last 3 months came to stay.  We had an absolute blast with her and her partner.  We gave them the full American treatment.  Beer and a hotdog at a baseball game.  An afternoon at the winery sampling local wine. A day on the lake enjoying some stand-up paddle boarding. And of course the good ol' reliable neighborhood BBQ.

Oh how I love you summer. And I know I am going to miss you.
