How does nature do this? While we slept there were things happening in my garden last night. These tiny little icicle "thorns" were forming.

  1. I agree with ELK, Mother Nature is the ultimate artist.
You did a pretty darn good job capturing her work.

  3. It's just amazing what we wake up to every morning, isn't it? Sometimes a gorgeous sunrise, sometimes 5 feet of snow, and sometimes little jewels like those! WONDERFUL shots!

  5. They look vicious and beautiful at the same time. I really do wonder how they form like that. I bet there's a time lapse video out there somewhere....

  6. It’s wonderful this happens over night. It's nature’s own top-secret mission working under the cover of darkness while everyone sleeps.

  9. Nature is truly creative, don't you think? How wonderful of you to share it with us! I saw photos of thorny frost a few months back, I'll have to see if I can find them again.

I was able to capture some snowflakes before Christmas, and it's amazing to see each one up close, just like your spiky crystals.
